How To Care For Silver Jewelry

Sterling silver has a beautiful bright white/grey color with loads of shine.

Pure silver is too soft to be used for functional pieces so it's usually alloyed with copper to give it some durability.

I use .925 sterling silver in all my pieces. Due to metals like copper being alloyed with silver it will tarnish over time.

Maintenance

It's best to store your silver jewelry in a zip-lock bag to aid in the progression of it tarnishing.

To polish your silver jewelry back it it's beautiful shine you can use silver polish available at most hardware stores. These polishes can be quite poisonous so please do this in a well ventilated area or outside. Once dipped in the polishing solution rinse clean with water.

Another, safer, solution is to use toothpaste or 1 parts baking soda and 2 parts water. Wet the silver and apply the cleaner with a soft, lint-free cloth or soft bristle toothbrush (not paper towels, which can scratch). Then rinse with cool water or buff with a soft cloth until dry.

To have your silver jewelry professionally cleaned you can send it back to me and I'll polish it right up for a small fee. Send me a message if you'd like to send your piece(s) in on my Contact page. Please note, pieces that have been purposing oxidized for a darker finish will lose it's color when polished.
