Monthly Reflection - May 2016

It's time for another #MonthlyReflection. About following your passion(s).

"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is today." -- Chinese Proverb

We live in the best time to follow your passions and connect it with your paycheck. Maybe it's because I'm in the entrepreneurial world but I'm seeing more and more small businesses pop up and they're just regular people doing amazing things.

My best tip if you're wanting to leave your 9-5 cubicle job (if you don't like it, that is, I know not all who have 9-5's hate their jobs) I would say start with a blog. Write about what your passionate about. There's no topic that's too niche. Chances are, if you're passionate about it then there are at least 100 others who are as well.

Don't be afraid to hit publish, it's going to take a lot of bad posts to figure out what you truly love writing about. This is something I struggle with constantly. Every business mentor I've spoken with has told me to only write about things that I could connect to my jewelry; style posts, gemstone healing benefits, or even 'words of inspiration' posts can be connected, etc. I do love writing about style, have you seen my 4 ways to rock sneaker with dresses?

Monthly Reflections For MayThe #MonthlyReflection post started on my Instagram account and I'm moving it over to my blog to dive deeper into these pressing subjects.

But I also love writing about how I run my business, like how I reach Inbox 0 or how I'm approaching getting started with Facebook ads. For about a year now I've been wrestling with the idea of starting a side hustle where I either write about all the things I learned, and still learn, about running an online creative business and the other is to start a jewelry making blog.

But then I'm hit with those annoying thoughts (with the business blog idea) "what do you know?" "What qualifies you to teach business?" on and on. I don't know everything, but there are a few topics that I would say I know more of than a lot of people. And that's basically what defines an expert, you know more of something than a lot of folks.

Anyways, my main point is, don't be afraid to just go for it. Stab those insecure thoughts with a semicolon and start that blog anyways!

What are your passions? Let me know and we'll see if we can brainstorm topic ideas that you can start writing about now!
